Moruya Waterfront, Pearly Shells, Criterion hotel history wanted
Do you have stories, family anecdotes, or historical information about the NSW Moruya Waterfront, Pearly Shells, Criterion, or earlier hotels on the same site?
Since 1846 when sly grog was sold, there has been hotel and accommodation on the strip of land on the northern bank of the Moruya River on the west side of Moruya Bridge.
Suzanne Newnham is writing a social history if you'd like to be involved please contact her by pressing this link or going to the contact page.

Update: Why the change from 175 years to 180 year history? There were unexpected delays leading up to and including 2023 which was when I'd hoped my book on licensed premises on the Moruya Waterfront hotel motel site would be published.
However, the Pearly Shells/Waterfront Hotel Motel building will have been opened for 65 years on 15 Dec 2025, and mid 2026 will be the 180th anniversary of the site’s start as a drinking establishment (sly-grog), to licensed premises with accommodation. I plan for the book to be published and launched in 2026.
The pub continues to be meeting place for friends and colleagues, and for families to enjoy Sunday lunch, at times becoming an unofficial community centre for safety and support, as well as providing a live music venue.
While fabulous stories and photographs have started arriving, more are welcome: weddings, celebrations, past owners, family histories, tourists, and a place of gathering whether due to natural disasters or your local 'watering hole'. Just a couple of lines, full stories; photos; images of documents - historical invoices, advertisements, newspaper clippings. If you are able to contribute, no matter how small, please contact me on https://www.suzanne-newnham.com/-contact.html
