Chronic Pain Articles
Health Care Consumers Association
From 2009, after visiting a few pain-related support groups, I joined two which offered information more suited to my health situation overall.
In some instances, a diagnosis box to tick is not available, but a list of recurring symptoms is the closest to identifying a chronic condition. In 2010, I co-founded Pain Support ACT in Canberra offering support, information, and advocacy for anyone with chronic pain regardless of whether or not a definitive diagnosis given. As a member of a support group I find there is a wonderful freedom in meeting others who share their experiences of living with persistent pain, fatigue, and other debilitating symptoms. You're finally not alone trying to cope with daily battles and isolation. |
From 2012 I started attending Health Care Consumers Association (HCCA) discussions on pain.
Two questions kept arising:
In response I wrote my experiences, and in June 2019 my articles about support groups were published by HCCA. Finding freedom via a support group
part 1: my story This article gives insights of my experiences as a member of support groups.
Finding freedom via a support group
part 2: types of groups Explains different focus, and what to look for in determining the suitability of joining a support group.

November 2016, pp 18-19 You’re a healer, so why can’t you heal yourself? These words haunt many who work with spiritual, healing, or psychic energies - and if that healer has a chronic condition then those words or that judgement can produce unnecessary additional stress. |
